John R. Wood agent, Debra Hobbs has been involved with Alzheimers foundation for over 6 years now. She is in charge of Event Planning and Decor. Each year they break new records for fundraising at Gulf Harbour for Alzheimers organization. In fact this is the second year in a row they’ve earned National recognition by Alzheimers as Top Ten fundraisers in our country. Speaker for this event was Harry Johns the CEO of Alzheimers.org This next January will their last year to hold the event at Gulf Harbour as we have outgrown the location. The residents and members of Gulf Harbour have been incredibly supportive and are to thank for the incredible success of the event each year.
About the Alzheimers Foundation
The mission of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is to provide support, services and education to individuals, families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias nationwide, and fund research for better treatment and a cure.
AFA was founded in 2002 by a caregiver whose mother lived with Alzheimer’s disease from 1980-1992. At that time, there was little information available and nowhere to turn for support. His goal was to make sure that no other family living with Alzheimer’s disease would have to go through the journey alone.
AFA was created to be that resource for families in their time of need. AFA operates a National Toll-Free Helpline (866-232-8484), staffed entirely by licensed social workers, which provides support and assistance to callers, as well as connect them with resources in their area, no matter where in the United States they live. The helpline has grown into a seven-day a week service. AFA’s national network of more than 2,700 member organizations serves families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia-related illnesses in each of the fifty states.
To help individuals take a proactive approach to brain health, AFA has a National Memory Screening Program which provides, free, confidential memory screenings at sites across the country. What began as a program on a single day in November has grown into a year-round service which has screened more than 5 million people to date.
AFA also works with professional caregivers and dementia-care settings to provide them with additional training and continuing education to elevate the level of care they provide on a daily basis. AFA has trained and educated more than 20,000 individuals through its professional training and community education programs.
About Debra Hobbs
Debra graduated from University of Pittsburgh and immediately began a sales career in Ft. Myers. She started selling Canon office equipment where she received both state and national sales recognition in one of the most competitive industries. Her abilities to determine the customer needs and provide solutions led her to become a sales leader and later a leading trainer managing both the Ft Myers and Naples offices. It didn’t take long for Real Estate Sales Companies to find one of the best service orientated sales professionals in the area. Debra was recruited to Residential Real Estate to work with WCI at Gulf Harbour Yacht and Country Club. She was awarded the “Top Sales person of the year” for WCI at Gulf Harbour. At the sell out, she entered general sales and has become a nationally recognized 5 star agent from numerous past customers. Customers rave about her communication skills and negotiation ability. A leader in the luxury homes market she achieved selling one of the highest residential sales in Lee County since 2011.
Debra believes in giving back to the community through volunteerism. She has served on many boards most recently The Heights Foundation and is currently a scholarship reader for SWFL Community Foundation. A full time resident for nearly 30 years she understand the marketplace. Debra has been married for 18 years to her Physician/Musician husband Larry and has three children Angelina, Pierce and Spencer. For fun she enjoys boating, tennis, golf, cooking and the arts.
